The Forest fire that since last Thursday has hit the municipalities of Los Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla, La Guancha and Icod de Los Vinos, with some small condition in La Orotava, is not controlled, but the wind has helped with gusts that did not exceed 15 km/h

The wind has been little present, with weak gusts although with some changes of direction in the summit areas, which have made extinction work difficult in those places. We will have an increase in temperatures until next Wednesday, and on Thursday they will begin to drop, while the relative humidity during the day will remain low, but at night it will increase.

The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, it was shown ayer cautious in view of the progress of the work to extinguish a fire that has affected some 2,500 hectares and has an approximate perimeter of 26 kilometers. “We cannot say that it is controlled, but it is with some containment.”

Fortunately, we have had the ‘tranquility’ that the wind has given us, which has not been very intense and has helped us to work during the night and the day has been very effective”. In summary, we continue to have “a large active fire, but with adverse conditions it could get complicated, but the favorable wind conditions are allowing all the teams to be able to work effectively on the ground and secure fronts, so that last night’s work and the one that will continue in the next few days will allow us to gain some control over the fire.

As the technicians have pointed out, both the western flank, in the Icod area, and the southern flank, which ascends to the La Fortaleza area, have advanced very slowly. “In Icod’s face, control has been achieved and, although he is still active, he has not gone any further. Meanwhile, we are waiting to see the evolution in the area of the Fortress and the National Park, but at the moment it is not happening quickly, which gives time to carry out appeasement tasks”.

However, Martín acknowledged that he is concerned about the eastern flank, in the area of the slope of Chanajiga, in Tigaiga, where some progress has been made due to changes in the wind and the difficult orography that prevent action by land. “He has had a good evolution, the problem is the large number of stones that have fallen, which sometimes drag incandescent material causing other hot spots. The good news is that it hasn’t progressed any further either,” he stated.

The wind is expected to remain between 10 and 15 km/h. During the night it was expected to blow from the summit to the sea, which “will help in some places.” The most important thing is that “it is not strong, the wind is going to be the fundamental factor on Monday and Tuesday,” he said.
