The Tenerife firewhich was declared last Thursday in the north of the island and which affects five municipalities: La Orotava, Los Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla, La Guancha and Icod de los Vinos, is still active and the main novelty is that in these It is currently in a stabilization phase, although it is not yet under control.
This was announced by the president of Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, who appeared before the media after attending the technical coordination meeting in the morning, in which he was accompanied by the Minister for Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Julio Pérez; the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín; the head of the Civil Protection service, Montserrat Román, and the BRIFOR spokesperson, Pedro Martínez.
The president has highlighted that after the extinction work that has been carried out during the night, neither the affected area has increased, which remains at 2,700 hectares, nor the perimeter, which stands at 27 kilometers, and the troops deployed -about 130- have worked on the consolidation of the fire control lines.
In any case, Ángel Víctor Torres has warned that the stabilization phase does not imply that the fire cannot be reactivated. “That is why we have to walk today so that we can say as soon as possible that we have moved on to the next phase, which would be the control phase,” he said.
