SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 25. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Popular Party (PP) will defend a motion in the ordinary plenary session of the Cabildo de Tenerife next Friday so that the island institution “demands permanent aerial means on the island to fight fires from the State Government.”

The popular councilor Valentín González has indicated in a note that despite the “political will” that all the political parties have always shown, it is necessary to obtain a “firm commitment so that these aerial means are available, in a real and effective way, as soon as possible”.

In his opinion, “the devastating fire that we are experiencing in the north of the island once again highlights the consequences of fire in our territory, which is ultraperipheral and fragmented, characteristics that make it strictly necessary for us to have our own means, that guarantee an immediate response when a fire breaks out, so that we can minimize its consequences”.

The Popular Party will also request “the firm and forceful commitment of the island’s government” to request the State administration to implement permanent aerial means, “that guarantee the availability of tools for extinguishing fires quickly and efficiently, taking into account the circumstances of the outermost region and fragmented territory”.

On the other hand, the popular demand that “it is strictly necessary that preventive measures be implemented in the months prior to summer, acting on forest fuel, with the aim of minimizing the risk of fires when the hottest months arrive. , in addition to expanding the operation against forest fires a few months after the summer period”.

González also points out that “there has always been a political consensus regarding the opinion that the Canary Islands, and more specifically Tenerife, should have their own aerial means to fight fires, but it is a will that neither the Government of the Canary Islands nor the the Cabildo de Tenerife has never materialized”.

For this reason, he continues, “in view of the consequences of the terrible fire that affected several municipalities in the North of Tenerife, and from the awareness that, unfortunately, it is a situation that could be repeated in the future, we will defend this proposal so that we have our own means, which facilitate and speed up the extinction tasks in the event of a fire”.
