More than 3,000 people yesterday accompanied the Virgen del Carmen in her traditional boat from Punta del Hidalgo. The maritime procession took place after La Barranquera, in Valle de Guerra, did the same on Saturday. Among the authorities who did not want to miss the return of this massive event, after the two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, were the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the mayor of Fiestas, Badel Albelo, in addition to others councilmen and councilors of the Corporation, who applauded the recovery “of one of the most emblematic and long-awaited traditions of the year by the lagoon men and women”.
The local councilor, who, as is tradition, embarked together with the Virgin, thanked the Festival Commission and the people who have participated, in one way or another, in the organization “all the effort and affection deposited so that this act , sign of identity of our municipality, returns after this long wait with all its splendor. These have been very hard times, but today, finally, Punta del Hidalgo is celebrating, experiencing one of the most emotional events in our popular culture which, despite the difficulties, has managed to pass from generation to generation thanks to the dedication and dedication of the people themselves, who have taken charge of their protection and transmission”, he added.
In similar terms, the Councilor for Fiestas expressed himself, who valued “the union of Punta del Hidalgo to carry out its festivities, deeply rooted in our municipality.”

Valleseco
Meanwhile, in Santa Cruz, in Valleseco, despite the kilometers away, they suffered the consequences of the Los Realejos fire, since they could not celebrate the embarkation of the Virgen del Carmen as planned. The work of recharging water by the seaplanes fighting the fire in the north of the island, in the capital’s port, prevented the queen of the seas from making her traditional journey. The land procession that reached the edge of the sea was celebrated, where the boats approached to honor her, from where she returned to the Church.
