The Tenerife fire is still out of control and already affects about 2,000 hectares

The Tenerife fire is still out of control and already affects about 2,000 hectares with flames that reached 60 meters high. It occupies a perimeter of more than 20 kilometers and already affects the slope of Tigaiga, entering the Valley of La Orotava.

The Minister of Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Julius Perezhas reported this Saturday morning, after a new coordination meeting to monitor the fire extinction tasks, that the fire that affects the municipalities of Los Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla and La Guancha, already occupies a perimeter of more than 20 kilometers and already affects the slope of Tigaiga, entering the Valley of La Orotava.

The counselor has indicated that the situation “is worse than we wanted and expected, especially because of the weather, which has been less favorable than we had anticipated and desired”, which has produced “an increase in the area affected “.

According to Pérez, more human and material resources will be incorporated. The seaplane will land in Gran Canaria at one o’clock and it is expected that it will be working in the area between three and four in the afternoon. If the fog does not prevent it, it has even forced the temporary closure of the La Guancha helipad.

For her part, the Head of the Civil Protection and Emergency Attention Service of the Government of the Canary Islands, Montserrat Román, has confirmed that the fire is growing on all its flanks, although she clarifies that on the front of the Valle de La Orotava it has stopped in El Colmenar de la Chapa, but it has been introduced in Icod de los Vinos, with a weak advance, but it is an area with many ravines and fuel.
