The Cabildo de Tenerife will double the network of Clean Points on the Island, for which it foresees an investment of 6,159,403 euros in the construction of eight new infrastructures that will complement the eight already existing on the Island, which have processed during 2021 54,595 tons of waste and served more than 270,000 users. “We are still committed to designing a sustainable model of waste management, with which we can improve the collection of waste that should not go to the waste container and turn it into resources,” recalled the island president Pedro Martín, who added that “the The current network of Clean Points is not enough, so we have decided to consolidate it by doubling the service points to bring citizens closer to the possibility of disposing of this waste in a sustainable manner”.

The island councilor for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina, indicated that the projects for the execution of these works have already been received, “taking another step in achieving the objective of this corporation with the Special Territorial Plan for the Planning of Waste (PTEOR) of Tenerife, to move towards that management model that proposes an environmental balance based on the collection and management of waste as appropriate and sustainable as possible”.

In Tenerife there are already Clean Points in Adeje, Arona, Güímar, Taco in La Laguna, Jagua in Santa Cruz, Buenavista del Norte, La Guancha and La Orotava, and new infrastructures will be installed in Los Rodeos in La Laguna, Las Eras in Fasnia, in the Environmental Complex itself in Arico, Granadilla, Las Chafiras in San Miguel de Abona, Vilaflor de Chasna, Playa San Juan in Guía de Isora and Tegueste.

The work to be carried out will consist of the construction of these new clean points, with their corresponding perimeter enclosure, an upper platform to locate the different containers for each of the waste, and another lower platform to facilitate the removal of large containers and a building that houses as a whole. In addition, an office will be built for user information and surveillance, an accessible toilet, a warehouse and a covered container area, intended for sun protection of dangerous materials or substances. The budget for the execution of these new infrastructures also contemplates the reform of some of the existing ones, such as those of Jagua, Taco and Adeje.

The clean points constitute basic infrastructures for the implementation of the selective collection system and in them the waste generated in homes, especially the dangerous ones, are collected separately.
