The council will double the current network of clean points on the Island to go from eight to sixteen. The island president Peter Martin, explains that in this way “one more step is taken to meet objectives aimed at a model that is more respectful of the environment in terms of waste recovery.” The planned global investment is 6,159,403 euros destined for the construction of the new infrastructures.

The eight clean points processed 54,595 tons of waste during 2021 and served more than 270,000 users. “The commitment is to design a sustainable management model, with which we can improve collection so that they do not go to the waste container and we turn them into resources,” recalls Martín.

The president adds: «The current network of clean points is not enoughwhich is why we have decided to consolidate it by doubling the service points to bring citizens closer to the possibility of disposing of this waste in a sustainable way».

The island councilor for Sustainable Development and the Fight Against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina, indicates that the execution projects for these works have already been received, “one more step in achieving the objective with the Special Territorial Plan for Waste Management ( PTEOR) of Tenerife». He emphasizes the objective of moving towards that management model that proposes an environmental balance based on the most adequate and sustainable collection and management of waste possible».

“The current network is not enough and we have decided to expand it to provide a better service”

Pedro Martin – President of the Cabildo

In Tenerife there are already clean points in Adeje, Arona, Güímar, Taco (La Laguna), Jagua (Santa Cruz), Buenavista del Norte, La Guancha and La Orotava. New infrastructures will be installed in Los Rodeos, La Laguna, Las Eras in Fasnia, in the Arico Environmental Complex itself, in Granadilla, in Las Chafiras (San Miguel de Abona), in Vilaflor de Chasna, in Playa San Juan (Guía de Isora) and in Tegueste.

The works will consist of construction of these infrastructures, with their corresponding perimeter enclosure. An upper platform will be enabled to locate the different containers of each one of the waste and another lower one that facilitates the removal of large ones. In addition to a building that houses the complex. To this must be added an office for user information and surveillance, an accessible toilet, a warehouse and a covered container area, intended for sun protection of hazardous materials or substances.

In the execution budget of these new infrastructures, the reform of some already existing ones is contemplated, such as those of Jagua, Las Torres de Taco and Adeje.
