Arona smart destination (the name of the project in English) will be a platform that will provide artificial intelligence to the municipality, improving the experience of tourists and residents, with meteorological stations that will allow to know the weather, pollution and noise levels as well as configure actions in case of alerts; an intelligent parking system, which facilitates the management of parking spaces and the location of the public with free spaces; a virtual tourist agent; the smart planner, which will include proposals for route changes or plans based on user preferences; and it will provide generic and detailed information as well as geolocation.
The central government provides 58% of the financing and the Constory, the remaining 42%
Red.es will contribute 58% of the investment and the Arona City Council the remaining 42% to develop a project that is based on the municipality’s values such as sustainability, accessibility and innovation.
The mayor, José Julián Mena, highlights that “it is essential to provide the municipality with tools to evolve towards the concept of a tourist destination with an intelligent management strategy.” In the opinion of the councilor, the digital transformation “cannot remain in speeches, but in facts. Just as we led tourism in the south of Tenerife at the time, we will now lead its next advance ».
