An agreement is committed to training young people and women in construction

Cabildo and Fundación Laboral de la Construcción sign an agreement to coordinate an Annual Plan of Actions that favors the training of employed and unemployed people, especially women and young people, in the field of construction. The signing was attended, on the one hand, by the island president, Pedro Martín, who was accompanied by the Minister of Employment, Carmen Luz Baso. On the other hand, the president of the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción, Óscar Izquierdo, along with several members of its board.

Pedro Martin highlights «the problem with the generational change and the incorporation of women in a vital sector for our Island». That is why he understands “it is essential that we join forces and promote the training and preparation of construction professionals, as a guarantee for the challenges of the future”.

The island president emphasizes that “many years ago it was thought that those who did not want to study would go to construction, but today they have to be prepared people because the level of demand is increasing.” For this reason, he adds, “this training, which is often not reached by the regulated, seems an absolute necessity.”

Óscar Izquierdo, for his part, was convinced that this agreement will be essential to strengthen the incorporation of women and young people into the construction sector. «We expect women to work on site with equal opportunities and working conditions as men. We look forward to them and urgently, as well as the young people.

The president of the Foundation recalled that 90 percent of the workforce of companies in the sector is over 30 years old, and 70 percent over 40. “The gap will widen when the specialists retire in 4 or 5 years” .
