SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has signed a collaboration agreement with the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción to coordinate an annual plan of actions aimed at improving training and employability in the construction sector.

The signing was attended by the island president, Pedro Martín, who was accompanied by the Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, Carmen Luz Baso, and the president of the Construction Labor Foundation, Óscar Izquierdo.

On behalf of the entity, the vice presidents Luis Fernández and José Manuel Ojeda also attended; the manager, Concepción Rojas Díaz, and the secretary, Víctor Jesús Paz.

Pedro Martín highlighted in a note that “there is a problem with the generational change and the incorporation of women in a sector that is vital for the island and that is why it is essential that efforts be combined and the training and preparation of professionals be promoted. of construction as a guarantee to be able to face the challenges of the future”.

The island president also stressed that “many years ago it was thought that those who did not want to study would go to construction, but today construction professionals have to be prepared people, because the level of demand is increasing” .

For this reason, he commented, “this training that we intend to provide, and which is often not reached by regulated training, seems to us to be an absolute necessity”.

The Minister of Employment, Carmen Luz Baso, also emphasized the importance of this agreement with which “training actions can be developed aimed at a new type of more sustainable construction, which requires qualified people in areas such as energy efficiency and the best use of resources, with the aim that unemployed people in Tenerife can have opportunities and join the labor market with stable and quality employment”.

MISSING GENERATIONAL RENEWAL

Óscar Izquierdo, for his part, was convinced that this agreement will be essential to strengthen the incorporation of women and young people into the construction sector.

“We expect women to work on site with equal opportunities and working conditions as men. We look forward to them eagerly and urgently, just as we also expect young people, because the sector does not guarantee generational change”, commented.

In this sense, the president of the Foundation recalled that 90 percent of the workforce of companies in the construction sector is over 30 years old, and 70 percent over 40.

“We are not covering the generational change, and the problem is that this gap will continue to widen when the specialists retire in 4 or 5 years,” he said.

The Construction Labor Foundation of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a national non-profit entity that was created in 1992, as a result of the signing of the General Agreement of the Construction Sector by the most representative entities such as CNC, CCOO Construction and FICA -UGT, having, among its objectives, the promotion of professional training for companies and workers in the construction sector.
