The Fair of the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands will bring together 50 artisans in Candelaria

The square of the basilica, in the municipality of Candlemaswill host between July 29 and 31 the Insular Craft Fair Patron Saint of the Canary Islandswhich will have the confirmed attendance of 50 artisans from different trades, “which will make this event one of the largest craft meetings that have been organized in Tenerife in recent times”, according to the Candelariero government.

The fair is jointly organized by the City Council of Candelaria and the Cabildo of Tenerife. It will open its doors from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The candelarian mayor, Mari Britoespecially thanks the Island Institution for its commitment to Villa Mariana and the mutual collaboration that have given rise to this initiative, with the hope that in the future “it can be maintained in Candelaria as a prelude to the Fiestas in Honor of the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands».

Hermitages Moreirainsular director of Socioeconomic Development of the Council of Tenerifehighlighted that “it has been easy to work with the Consistory” to “value craftsmanship”, and “the synergies that have been established and that have culminated with this Insular Fair in an enclave as special as the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias». He advanced the intention that this exhibition “can be maintained over time, since it will be the largest fair to be developed in terms of stalls.”

La Gomera will be counted as a guest island, which was represented in the presentation by the first vice-president of the Gomeran Cabildo, Alfred Herrera, who thanked the invitation to participate in this innovative event. The Columbian island will have an institutional exhibitor, “where the trade of basketry will be disclosed, along with the rest of the characteristic trades of the rich Gomeran crafts.”

Those attending the Craft Fair Patron Saint of the Canary Islands they will be able to contemplate work in felt and wool, creative sewing or crochet, decoration in fabric, openwork or patchwork, doll making and puppet making, leather and leather goods, paper and cardboard, recycling of materials, turning, jewelry and goldsmithing, macramé, pottery, instruments musical, cutlery, or candle making, among other crafts. Candelaria City Council It will reward the best position and the best traditional and contemporary craft products.

The Councilor for Canarian Identity and Culture, Manuel Gonzalez, pointed out that this fair “completes the effort that is being made by the Consistory in terms of the conservation and dissemination of artisan trades.” Work carried out by entities such as the Pottery Center Casa Las Miquelas, focused on traditional pottery. «In this matter», he adds, «the training aimed at artisans has increased with specific courses to obtain digital tools that allow them to increase their commercialization, and a the Candelaria Handicraft Guidein which 25 artisans from the municipality participated».

The municipality of Candelaria will have a special representation at the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands Craft Fair with a stand dedicated to the Pottery Center House the Miquelas, where the production of pottery will be shown live, “a trade of great importance for the economy of the town until the middle of the last century.” This center is usually located in a rehabilitated traditional house, at number 7 Isla de La Gomera street, which has three rooms where you can learn about the pottery work and the tradition of this trade in the municipality.
