New York, the city that never sleeps will be the theme of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2023, to be held between January 20 and February 26. This is the result of the online vote organized by the city council of the capital, through the Autonomous Organization for Festivities and Recreational Activities (OAFAR).

The winning proposal registered a total of 1,730 votes, which meant 44.6% of popular support over the other options. ‘La Televisión’ was supported by 1,557 votes and ‘A sustainable world’ received 593 votes.

The Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, showed his “joy at knowing the subject that will be the support of creativity for all the people and groups linked to our most international festival”. The mayor recalled that they have gone through “the longest period between carnivals and now it’s time to live the shortest, which is an organizational challenge because in just six months the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2023 will be launched.”

Cabello highlighted “the good news” that the beginning of a new edition means “both for the carnival goers and for the march and economic dynamism of Santa Cruz de Tenerife”, since it is “not only a festival of international tourist interest, but also a point of reference for the cultural and leisure industry”.

Finally, Alfonso Cabello announced that the OAFAR will open the period for the public call for the elaboration of the poster for the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2023 on August 1 and will keep it open until September 15.

The vote could be carried out through the website carnavaldetenerife.com from 12:00 p.m. last Monday, July 12, and remained in force until 11:59 p.m. yesterday, July 18.

To guarantee the correct result of the same and avoid the duplication of votes, the computer system applied a filter that allows validating only one vote per IP address. After applying this filter, a total of 3,880 valid accessions were computed.

The calendar of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2023 will resume its usual distribution of contests and events, starting on January 20 with the Presentation of Candidates. The Children’s Queen will be known on Sunday, February 5 and that of the older ones, three days later, on February 8. The Carnival Queen Election Gala will be on Wednesday, February 15; which will give rise to the development of carnivals in the streets until February 26, Piñata Sunday.
