The emotions overflowed yesterday in Candelaria with the acts in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, a fishing village that has a strong devotion to the patron saint of fishermen and that demonstrated it, from the first hour, with the rosary of the dawn with the procession of the image from the parish of Santa Ana to the cave of El Talán in El Pozo.
The participants in the procession enjoyed upon their arrival chocolate and churros offered by the Churrería el Kiosko. From that moment on, many residents of El Pozo began with the making of 18 carpets in which more than 3,000 kilos of salt were used, a street that also wore its best clothes with decorations on the facades and on the balconies and where the neighbors lived a beautiful day of coexistence after two years in which the Dixeland Las Candelas put the musical setting to the day.
In the afternoon and at the Fishing Pier, the Eucharist was held with the participation of the Santa Ana Parish Choir and the traditional offering to the Virgen del Carmen was made. Before starting the boat, the mayor, Mari Brito, on behalf of the City Council, and Víctor Díaz, patron saint of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria Fishermen’s Guild, wanted to recognize two people who recently died for their involvement in the community life of the municipality : Andreina Hernández Cabrera and Pedro González Pérez, better known as Perico. The voice of Fran Hernández, who performed El Pescador, put an end to this act before beginning the path to the boat in which flowers were thrown into the sea in memory of all those deceased fishermen.
The fishermen took the baton from the porters and traveled with the Virgen del Carmen along the coast of Candelaria aboard El Marino to return to the pier where the procession back to the Parish of Santa Ana began.
