SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 16. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Secretary of Organization of the Canarian PSOE, Nira Fierro, has said that she is convinced that the package of measures announced by President Pedro Sanchez, during the Debate on the State of the Nation, will have a positive impact on the Canary Islands, since “they are aimed at the social majority” and will make “life fairer for citizens”.
Nira Fierro has highlighted the fiscal measures for banks and electricity companies, together with the complementary aid for students with scholarships or investment in renewable energies. “Complementary actions, all of them to the decree law approved a few weeks ago, which included, among others, increases in the Minimum Vital Income and non-contributory pensions, which have an important impact on the Canary Islands,” said Fierro.
“Facing, however, is a Popular Party that even in the current circumstances does not seem willing to lend a hand”, lamented Nira Fierro. “They talked more about ETA than about the reality of our country. It is the Popular Party of all time, the one with brawls and confrontation. They were not up to the task, a missed opportunity. It would be difficult for them to govern this country without a project for Spain and without Spain” , he added.
The leader of the Canarian Socialists has praised “the solvency” and “empathy” of President Pedro Sanchez, “solid in his speech and making it clear that he has Spain in his head and has a project for the country.” In addition, she has confessed that she is proud of her colleague and spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Hector Gómez, from Tenerife, whom she has congratulated for “the role and work carried out during these days of intense debate in Congress.”
Among the measures announced by the president, Nira Fierro has made special mention of the new taxes, since he understands that they have “a clear vocation for social justice.” “Bank taxes, with which it is expected to raise 1,500 million euros, and taxes on the extraordinary profits of the large electricity companies. A fundamental step to advance in fiscal progressivity”, he said.
“In order to have a good welfare state and the social shield that this country needs, we must have the necessary resources and hence this fiscal progressivity. An issue that we celebrate especially from the Canary Islands,” said Fierro, who also made reference to the investments launched by Pedro Sánchez to guarantee that the Canary and Balearic Islands are fully decarbonized territories.
“A job that connects with the roadmap of the Government of the Canary Islands of Ángel Víctor Torres, whose priorities include fighting climate change and putting sustainability at the center of all policies,” said Fierro. As an example he has cited the “deployment of photovoltaic panels” that is being carried out in public buildings on the islands.
“Our mission as public officials, and as socialists, has always been to give citizens tools to mitigate the effects of each adversity and make a fairer society,” said Nira Fierro, who concluded by highlighting “the courage of the president Pedro Sanchez to prioritize the protection of the most vulnerable at all times. “He made an accurate X-ray and, above all, with solutions that reach citizens directly,” she assured.
