The nationalist counselor Verónica Meseguer will ask in the plenary commission on Sustainability, Highways, Innovation and Culture that is held next Friday how much money the promotion of this infrastructure represents for the Cabildo and its companies.

Meseguer points out in a note released this Friday that the signing of an agreement with DORNA for the promotion of the Motor Circuit and the presentation of the project in the Tenerife Auditorium was recently announced. “We want to know how much money that costs, above all, because the circuit is already known and there is nothing new. In fact, the works are still stopped today (they should have been completed in May 2021) and neither the second phase of the north access nor the Circuit works have been put out to tender”, he comments.

Meseguer recalls that “for the sake of transparency, the plenary session of May 27 approved the creation of a monitoring commission for the Motor Circuit, but the PSOE and Ciudadanos have breached the agreement and have not convened it.”

In his opinion, “they are hiding the information and that is why we have officially requested it.” In addition, he adds, “we demand that the table be convened immediately because all the political groups and the Automobile and Motorcycle Federations and the Royal Automobile Club of Tenerife have the right to know what is happening with the Motor Circuit.”

The motion approved in May 2022 establishes that all the political groups of the Cabildo must be represented in the monitoring commission of the Tenerife Motor Circuit, as well as a representative of the Inter-island Automobile Federation of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (FIASCT), Canarian Automobile Federation, Inter-Insular Motorcycling Federation, Canarian Motorcycling Federation and the Royal Automobile Club of Tenerife (RACT) and officials from the Cabildo area in charge of the construction of the Motor Circuit.

The nationalists comment that the first meeting of the commission had to be held on July 1, 2022, “something that the PSOE and Ciudadanos have failed to comply with.”

Yes We Can “investigate” the expenses

This Wednesday it was the Grupo Sí Podemos Canarias in the Cabildo de Tenerife that announced that its political group will ask the insular government for explanations “about the waste of public money that will be spent on the act of presenting the unnecessary Tenerife Motor Circuit” in which the corporation “will pay for the assistance of personalities and professionals from the motor world with whom they will try to sell smoke to the public, never better said, and present this leftover project as something beneficial for the Island, when it is really going to be a irrecoverable depredation of the territory and a possible economic toll that Tenerife residents will have to pay for years to come”.

protest called

The presentation of the Circuit will take place next Tuesday at the Tenerife Auditorium at 6:00 p.m., and at the same time several citizen and environmental platforms have called a protest outside the venue to protest against this infrastructure, which they consider unnecessary and expensive.

The Motor Circuit, which restarts this year in the Atogo area after several decades of planning and delays, has a multi-year investment of around 50 million euros until 2025.
