SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 14. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government Council of the Canary Islands approved this Thursday the payment of 4,530,182 euros to the shipping company Fred Olsen, SA, as a reinstatement of 25% corresponding to the Administration of the Autonomous Community of the subsidy for Canarian residents for inter-island trips made during the first quarter of 2022.

This reimbursement to the shipping company corresponds to the subsidy granted to 435,839 people residing in the Canary Islands who chose to make inter-island trips through this maritime company.

These trips correspond to the months of January, February and March of the year 2022 and certify an increase in mobility compared to the previous record in the same season in 2021, when 268,080 passengers opted for this transport.

These figures for the first quarter of 2022 consolidate the recovery of inter-island connectivity after the restrictions due to the Covid-19 health crisis, the Government said in a note.

The budget item needs the mandatory authorization of the Government Council of the Canary Islands, as it is an amount greater than two million euros.

Subscriptions are made on a quarterly basis to all shipping companies operating in the archipelago, by virtue of Decree 222/2000, of December 4, which establishes the bonus system for inter-island maritime transport of travelers resident in the Canary Islands, contributing the Autonomous Executive with 25% of the total.

The remaining 50% of this discount, up to 75% of the value of the passenger’s ticket, must be paid to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.
