With this decision, bathing on the beaches of the municipality is prohibited and the intensive cleaning service will be activated as soon as the tide allows it.

The Candelaria City Council had begun last Friday to gradually open the beaches after a closure also produced by the presence of hydrocarbons.

This Monday, the island group of Sí Podemos Canarias in the Cabildo has asked to investigate the origin of this spill, which it has described as an “environmental attack”, in order to purge responsibilities to whoever corresponds.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council requested the same days ago, after detecting hydrocarbons in Las Teresitas and Las Gaviotas and decreeing the closure of Almáciga and Roque de las Bodegas.
