Candelaria recovers this Saturday the boat of the Virgen del Carmen

Candlemas recover this saturday july 16 the procession and boat the Virgin of Carmenwhich have not been celebrated since July 2019. The rosary of the dawn with the procession of the Virgin of Carmen of the Parish of Santa Ana to the fishing dock will mark the start of the main events in honor of the patron saint of fishermen this Saturday, July 16. Arriving at the fishing dock, the faithful will be received with a hot chocolate offered as is traditional by the El Kiosko churreria. Then the neighbors of the the well street will start with the elaboration of the traditional carpets with more than 3,000 kilos of salt. The Dixeland Las Candelas will put the musical setting to this long-awaited day.

One of the most emotional moments will be the Eucharist with the floral offering to the Virgin of Carmen and the subsequent boat and maritime procession that will travel the entire coastline of the municipality of Candelaria. Upon disembarking, the procession of the Virgin will begin its return through the carpeted streets towards the Parish of Santa Ana. At the end of the procession, a festival will be organized with the La Salsa Band Orchestra.

New in this edition of the Festival of the Virgen del Carmen and Santa Ana 2022 in the municipality of Candelaria, the Plaza de Los Pescadores will host at 9:00 p.m. a «theatrical interlude by Zalatta theater, under the title of Stories of fishermen and fishwives».

The festivities will continue this Sunday 17. The day will begin with the XV Children’s and Adult Fishing Contestwhile in the afternoon they will organize the popular sardine and the Dance of the Day of Carmen, with a performance by the Columbia Orchestra. In addition, that same day the recording of the special episode of the Alegadoras podcast will take place, on the occasion of the exhibition Ni vagas, ni maleantes, which can be seen at the Old Cinema Cultural Space from seven in the afternoon. It is an artistic recreation and a tribute to the memory of the LGTBI collective in the Canary Islands.
