The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Roads area, has begun work to improve the functionality and aesthetics of the area around the Fasnia junction with the TF-1 (South motorway). The Island Corporation will invest a total of 97,580 euros in this action.
The councilor responsible for the Roads area in the Cabildo de Tenerife, Enrique Arriaga, from Ciudadanos (Cs), explains that this action is part of the conservation plan for the green areas adjacent to the island roads, “with which the margins, gardens and slopes with a landscape integration along this route of regional interest».
walls
Arriaga informs that the work will be carried out on the slopes in both directions of the link between the municipality of Fasnia and the South highway, through the construction of stone walls made of chasnera stone, typical of the landscape in the south of the Island.
This will allow, in addition to the ornamentation of the green areas, the retention of the fall of fine materials to the road. Likewise, Enrique Arriaga points out, a cladding will be carried out on the surfaces with the greatest slope, integrating it with the planting of native species of the basal floor, such as tabaibas or cardones, resistant to the high insolation of the area.
For his part, the island director of Roads in the Cabildo de Tenerife, Tomás Félix García, recalls that the interventions that are being carried out “will prioritize the use of native tree and shrub vegetation in the links, so as to aesthetically soften the transition between the track and its natural environment”.
Carbon footprint
This choice of species, together with the use of inert materials from the area or irrigation using reclaimed water, among other factors, “improve not only aesthetics but also economic and environmental efficiency in the maintenance of these and other green areas on the island , and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the road maintenance service”, highlights the insular director.
