The City hall of Puerto de la Cruz ended yesterday the process started last week of eviction and closure of the iders building. First thing in the morning, the Local Police, accompanied by municipal workers, went to the building where some six people still remained who had refused to abide by the eviction order issued ten days ago, and the rest of the squatters who lived in the building they did comply in the first communication.

“This morning, with the judicial assistance that arrived last week and after ten days had elapsed since the notice, the eviction has proceeded, after which the municipal workers have boarded up the door,” the mayor of Porto explained to DIARIO DE AVISOS, Mark Gonzalez.

The councilor recalled that, with this eviction, “we are not only complying with the order contained in the declaration of imminent ruin issued by the City Council, but also putting these people who were in a building that is not safe to safety.” In addition, he added that “Social Services continues to work, finding and providing habitability alternatives to these people, which, on the other hand, is difficult, because they have associated pathologies, so the response we give does not depend only on the municipal level.”

González recalled that, when he arrived at City Hall, “the building was occupied by more than 70 people, for whom we care, even putting them up in a hotel during the pandemic, therefore, what has been done today (yesterday) is the continuity of a job that is embodied in a concrete fact that is the one that determines and culminates the eviction”.

Likewise, he insisted that “we are going to continue working and looking for solutions for a property that, after 31 years, continues to give us that image, and, above all, so that the owners can recover their homes.”

From this moment an administrative process begins that, as González admits, can be extended over time. “Now it remains to communicate to the property, something that we know is very difficult. After many years, we have updated documentation and made many personal appeals to notify as soon as possible, but we are aware that there will be owners who we cannot locate or notify of the decree of imminent ruin, so it has to proceed administratively, such as the legal field allows us, with the publication in the BOE and the times established by law”, he said.
