the mayor of Cross port, Marco Gonzalez (PSOE)regrets the «irresponsible criticism of the Popular Party which, regrettably, exercises a disloyal opposition knowing that the municipal government (PSOE-ACP)as has been explained to you on countless occasions, has followed an inexcusable and pre-established process in the administration regarding Parque San Francisco and the future auditorium». A process that also responds, according to González, “to the care of local heritage.” For the socialist president, “the PP is capable of playing with the historical heritage of the city just to criticize this government.”

«It is nothing new that this government wants to guarantee that the works do not damage our historical heritage in any way. and, for this reason, the essential procedure is being carried out to obtain all the reports that determine the possible incidence of some works in the environment, including a residential building where more than 30 families live, ”insists the mayor. In addition, he underlines that “from the government the expected cost of the works is also valued, which has already risen to 21 million euros due to its high complexity.”

The socialist president insists on the risks for a church declared BIC and a building with 30 homes

And he points out: «If we take into account that the new San Francisco Park could only house 600 people after the innumerable modifications that the original project has undergone, such a limited capacity is a fact to be taken into account since it would hamper the capacity of both the administration and the private developers to carry out all kinds of events”. For González, the PP’s criticism of this «Guarantee work for the heritage and the social and economic profitability of the cultural infrastructureportray a party that does not seem to care in the least about the historical legacy that is everyone’s heritage, as well as the management of a space that has to be an opportunity for the city and not a burden.

Up to 2,000 people

“This government is evaluating all these factors, putting on the table alternatives that can be very attractive for the future of the city and not only for the cultural sector, but for the rest of the city’s economic sectors. This alternative that we are considering is located in the plot of the old bus station, which would not only increase the capacity of the space, with the possibility of quadrupling its capacity to 2,000 people, but would also give the opportunity to create an important pool of parking spaces that are so necessary for the hotel, commercial and residential sectors of the city. And that without the need to significantly increase the budget », he highlights.

Marco Gonzalez (PSOE) Delia Padron

“This government has another city model that not only takes care of our legacy and our identity very much, but also wants to project a city with the best opportunities for an exciting present and future. There is no doubt that we are following a responsible roadmap that is up to the task of this much-needed infrastructure. Because we should not and cannot risk the legacy of Porto and, furthermore, we have to ensure the best option for the present and future of Puerto de la Cruz», says the mayor.

In the opinion of Mark Gonzalez, “those who criticize or question this process show their lack of scruples and common sense to define what is important for this city.” The socialist mayor announces that his government will continue to work in this line of “maximum responsibility and commitment together with the rest of the administrations that ensure that the city has the best possible auditoriumand that it is socially and economically profitable not only for the City Council, but also for the private promoters who choose this city to exhibit all kinds of events in a modern, accessible and efficient facility».

This period of reflection on the auditorium that the government is now opening is, in his opinion, “an act that is consistent with all these conditioning factors and demonstrates once again the desire to open the big decisions that this city has to make, counting on all the groups , both cultural and social, including the commercial and hotel sectors of our city. And the PP demonstrates with its criticism that It bothers them that this process is opened up to citizens so that, with transparency and participation, we can all choose the best future».
