The Government Group of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council, made up of the PSOE and the Portuense Citizen Assembly (ACP), has reinforced, through the Sustainable City area, the technical team for urban discipline. Its objective is to guarantee the protection of the historical heritage of the municipality and compliance with the regulations on urban works and actions carried out in the tourist city.

Hernández also highlights the importance of the Special Plan for the Protection of the Historic Complex (PEPCH), which is currently being drafted, and which “will serve to reinforce the identification and protection of the Portuense Historic Site and to expedite the processing of urban planning licenses in the center from the city, which now have to go through the Historical Heritage Service of the Cabildo de Tenerife ». In addition, it is expected that it will allow “increasing legal security for both citizens and companies that want to invest to develop their economic activity in the municipality.”
As a result of these measures, a file for the protection of urban legality has recently been initiated and some actions that had been carried out in a property that are within the delimitation of the Asset of Cultural Interest with category have been stopped and sealed. of the Historic Complex of Puerto de la Cruz, “and that are contrary to current legislation.” According to Hernández, “these actions had aroused a certain social alarm by significantly affecting the façade, but they also include demolition, expansion and restructuring works carried out without the corresponding license or the required prior authorization from the Historical Heritage Service of the Cabildo de Tenerife.”
