SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 5. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Parliament of the Canary Islands is the national leader in consensus, agreement and dialogue, only surpassed by Catalonia in terms of the proportion of affirmative votes and abstentions over the total votes cast on average for each law approved in these forty years of self-government.

These data have been published in the ‘Consensus’ project, coordinated by the National University of Distance Education (UNED) and in which the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Pablo de Olavide University and the University of Burgos have participated. The study is sponsored by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

In the project, an analysis of all the legislative initiatives approved in the parliaments between 1980 and 2021 is carried out, deducing from this study that the laws are approved with a consensus of 84 percent, in such a way that the votes against remain in a 16 percent. On the other hand, on a scale of 0 to 1, the opposition joins the consensus in 0.68 percent of the total cases in this period.

In this sense, the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Gustavo Matos, wanted to recall that in these three years of the tenth legislature he has been emphasizing that in the Canarian Chamber “negotiation and agreement always prevail”. The president valued the consensus capacity of the groups represented in the Parliament of the Canary Islands and the climate of non-crisis with which it is debated.

Gustavo Matos highlighted the effort, work and commitment of the deputies of the Parliament of the Canary Islands to carry out all those proposals that seek to improve the lives of the citizens of the eight islands, “focusing on what is truly important and avoiding confrontations” .
