The Municipality of La Orotava takes stock of the recently completed Major Festivals of the Villa and describes them as “a complete success”. After two years without being held under normal conditions, due to the pandemic, in 2022 the extensive program of street events that began to be held on May 15 was recovered. The main ones were concentrated in the big week, from June 20 to 26, days in which the Villero Consistory calculates that “more than 200,000 people passed through the municipality».

Despite this large influx of people, “everything went on with total normality and safety, without serious incidents.” The local government (CC) emphasizes that “villagers, residents of different parts of the Archipelago and visitors in general were able to once again enjoy these traditional celebrations in honor of Corpus Christi, San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza» no major incidents.

In the big week, the reading of the proclamation was celebrated, in charge of Agustin Gonzalez; the presentation of the Harvest of Wines; the day of the carpets; the Villa de Vinos Contest La Orotava; the dance of magicians; the cattle fair-exhibition, the Ascent of the Saints and, as a finishing touch, the popular pilgrimage of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza. The Thursday of the carpets and the day of the pilgrimage were the ones with the greatest public presence.

“We value the development of each of the events of the festivities, as well as the exemplary behavior of neighbors and visitors»

Francisco Linares (CC) – Mayor of La Orotava

It also highlights the good performance of the Cecopal security operation, and the impact of these festivities on the local economy, “with an estimated impact of more than 5 million euros».
