Hospital del Sur has included oral and maxillofacial surgery in its portfolio of services, which will facilitate users’ access to this new health service and will prevent them from traveling to the metropolitan area. Since the incorporation of this new specialty, an average of four patients per session have been operated on, since this type of operation is of short duration and does not require admission.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery treats those pathologies that occur in the oral cavity, head and neck and that, in addition, require surgical intervention. They can be acquired pathologies of congenital, tumoral, traumatic, degeneration or aging origin. Surgery can be performed to treat various conditions such as reconstruction of the jaws, removal of oral tumors and cysts, skin tumors, bone grafts, extraction of wisdom teeth near the nerve and interventions for benign bone pathologies that do not require admission.

The Nuestra Señora de Candelaria Hospital Complex, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and managed by the Hospital del Sur, “works to offer the aronero center the best care for users,” he says in a statement. During this year, in addition to incorporating the maxillofacial surgery service, a heart failure consultation has been launched, with the aim of increasing the number of specialties in the center and facilitating access to citizens of the South of the Island.

During 2021, 126,022 consultations, 2,381 surgeries and 202,719 tests of different specialties were carried out at the Hospital del Sur. This reflects the large volume of care of the center, which serves a population of 200,000 people in the southern area. Since the start of the intervention in this hospital, during the month of March, 42 surgeries have been carried out.
