SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 2. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, have analyzed the proposals and future challenges with the ten fishermen’s associations of the island.

In a press release, the Island Corporation explained that the island officials have met with some 80 fishermen to learn about the needs and demands of the sector, to which this year the Island Corporation has allocated almost one million euros in aid .

During the meeting, Martín was interested in “the needs, demands and future challenges of a sector that forms part of our history, culture and economy, and to which this year we have allocated almost one million euros in aid”.

Here, he recalled that “a traditional and sustainable fishing technique is practiced in Tenerife”, with boats of small size and power and at distances close to the coast, “which is essential to reduce the environmental impact and preserve the biodiversity of our waters “.

For his part, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, emphasized the commitment of the current government team to revitalize the brotherhoods, promote artisanal fishery products and contribute to the support of professional fishing.

“In these three years of mandate we have more than tripled the budget for fishing. In fact, in total, this government has dedicated more than two million euros to the promotion of artisanal fishing,” he remarked.
