The PSOE of Puerto de la Cruz plans to relocate the new auditorium

The general secretary of the PSOE and mayor of Porto, Mark Gonzalez; the deputy secretary general of the Insular Executive, Aaron Afonsoand the organizational secretary of the PSOE in the Canary Islands, Nira Fierrooffered this Thursday, June 30, a press conference in which they highlighted “the unity of socialists at all levels to defend the leading role of Cross port in the balance of the island”, and announced that they are studying relocating the new auditorium in the old bus station, “given the problems and risks for a Well of Cultural Interest that exist on the plot of old san francisco park». This change of location would allow, according to the mayor, “to multiply the capacity by 3 or 4 and avoid spending 25 million in a space for just 600 people.”

Fierro anticipated that CEIP Cesar Manrique will incorporate places for students from 0 to 3 years old in September, and Afonso valued the progress in projects such as the expansion of the Botanical Garden, the Insular Water Sports Center or the recovery of the Taoro hotel.

Mark Gonzalez thanked “the commitment but also the continued and coordinated work carried out between the three administrations with a basic premise: putting the needs of the municipality first, making the municipality the main protagonist of the actions that we prioritize and a new boost in trust that is has for the present and the future that it represents the engine of the northern region of the island that cannot be postponed to rebalance the island, carrying out the necessary infrastructures that this city has demanded for more than two decades”.

Fierro, González and Afonso at the press conference this Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Puerto de la Cruz The day

For González, “we are therefore on the launching pad to start processes that will be led by the people of Porto who come to complete other projects that have already begun their journey both in the island government and in the expansion and modernization of the Treatment Plantor the start-up of the expansion of the Botanical Garden that has the full support of the executive who heads Angel Victor Torres as evidenced by the more than half a million euros recently approved for its visitor center”.

The mayor also valued the performance since the Urban Development Consortium for the Rehabilitation of Puerto de la Cruz“not only with the planning working side by side with the Canary Islands City Council and Government but also to promote all those actions that serve to promote the promotion of the city as a unique destination with identity”.

coordinated work

“Coordinated work and effective management with all the administrations that bear fruit so that the hotel sector commits to the city more than ever, with investments in improvements in hotels such as the emblematic Taoro, with the fundamental support of the Cabildo; the historical The Princes Hotel; comprehensive reform of San Telmo hotel; the recovery of Miramar which will become the Atlantic Hills, as well as the recovery of the Hotel Martianezwhich had been closed for more than a decade”, summarized the mayor.

Mark Gonzalez detailed “the opportunity that is currently being considered in the municipality to move the municipal auditorium to the old bus station, closed due to structural problems for almost 15 years, within a very well connected plot of 15,000 square meters in the heart of the city with the added possibility of having a bag of car parks that is so necessary for the city”. And he added that “we are assessing this possibility after receiving the corresponding reports regarding the incidents that could be caused by the construction of the new San Francisco Park project in adjoining buildings, including some assets of cultural interest with a high heritage value that must be protected”.

Sport City

Also from the PSOE is put on the table “the opportunity to clarify as soon as possible the urban tools that are available to the municipality together with the Government of the Canary Islands to promote a strategic infrastructure such as the sports city”. The mayor stressed that a process is now beginning with all the city’s groups to put on the table these possibilities that exist to promote these processes in a transparent and participatory manner, “facilities that must represent a qualitative and quantitative leap in the opportunities that the city offers so that together we can build the best future for Cross port”.

Both Aarón Afonso and Nira Fierro They stressed that the PSOE is very clear that the tourist city has been having a historical deficit caused by an investment imbalance that other governments have carried out in the last two decades, which in their opinion means that it works with that very clear idea of balancing the different regions with strategic projects.

The expansion of the Botanical Garden or the new Treatment Plant, “investments whose projects are already being undertaken come to consolidate the investment effort that sustains the new Insular Water Sports Center as a paradigm shift for the future of the city, the region and the island, as is the investment of more than 15 million euros in the historic recovery of the Hotel Taoro for which we have opted from the insular institution and which begins its second phase in a few weeks, “added Afonso.

The sum of these actions, together with others such as the improvement of the Garden Beach as well as streets as important as Saint John or Whiteincluding the recently tendered tegueste street, whose works will begin after the summer, exceed the 40 million euros.

Fierro put on the table the impulse that the regional administration has given from management and work to come to the aid of companies and the self-employed during the pandemic, of which Puerto de la Cruz is a clear example “because we receive up to 404 requests among which 40 million euros have been distributed in record time”.

“Also, the launch of an initiative that the Angel Victor Torres championed as is the expansion of public education from 0-3 years is a reality in Cross port since the César Manrique school is going to be one of the centers that is going to launch it this next course that begins in September,” said Fierro.
