SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 28. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has hosted this Tuesday the act of commemoration and reading of the manifesto held in the island institution on the occasion of the international day of ‘LGBTI+ Pride’.

At the meeting, the island president, Pedro Martín, pointed out that public institutions have a “responsibility not only with the groups, but with democratic society.”

“Sometimes there are those who try to set back, but despite everything we are moving forward. 44 years ago the ‘Pride’ day was celebrated for the first time in the García Sanabria park, and since then there was neither solidarity nor conviction and consideration for the activist movements that exist today”, argued Martín.

The president of Tenerife has also pointed out that “it would have been unthinkable at that time for the rainbow flag to be outside the Cabildo de Tenerife” and for representatives of all the political groups to be together supporting it, “a flag that belongs to everyone, and that only It is not recognized by those who are exclusive”.

During the act, where all the entities represented in the LGBTI+ Insular Table participated with the reading of their manifesto, the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, stressed that this day “is not a day to celebrate, but to commemorate and vindicate human rights”.

“Today we commemorate all the fallen people for being consistent with what they felt and we claim rights that should not be lost”, clarified the counselor who began his speech by remembering all the people who have lost their lives for the mere fact to be consistent with what they felt.

The counselor recognized the work carried out by the ten LGTBIQ+ groups in Tenerife, highlighting the work they have been doing all this time, and the Cabildo is there “to be able to help and continue defending people’s rights.”

In his opinion, “Tenerife is an island proud of its diversity, but much remains to be done to achieve a country that respects diversity”.

The groups, in their manifesto, have opted to launch a “cry of courage” and also thank the activists “for continuing to stand up, in the face of hatred, with visibility and with pride”, collects a note from the Cabildo.

In this sense, they recalled that there is already a generation that was born with the right to same-sex marriage, achieved 17 years ago, in addition to rights such as the Trans and Intersex Canarian Law and the future Trans and LGTBI + Law at the state level.

Among their requests, they highlight that the rights of trans minors be guaranteed, regardless of their age, so that they have a procedure to be able to request a change of sex in the registry when they need it and, in addition, that the identity of the minors be recognized. non-binary people so that they can prove with their documentation that they do not identify as men or women.

ERADICATION OF HATE

In the document they are committed to an “educational system with professionals trained in the eradication of hatred for any circumstance, in a country that is becoming more diverse every day.”

In addition, they emphasize that discrimination against people with HIV must end “once and for all” as well as claim that “trans people have the right to quality health care and education.”

To end their speech, the groups opted to achieve equality “hand in hand with public institutions committed to rights, with the Cabildo de Tenerife in the LGBTIQ+ Insular Board, with the municipal councils, with the Red Asterisco and the Red Prisma united “.

“We are a group made up of sister entities that know the importance of fighting together, for equality from freedom, with dignity, turning difficulties and barriers into progress and success,” they say.
