upset. Thus describes the Mayor of Los Silos, Macarena Fuenteshow do you feel not receiving a response from the central Administration to the contentious-administrative appeal filed by the City Council to prevent the demolition of the municipal swimming pool, located in the maritime-terrestrial public domain, as the concession expired after 50 years due to the entry into force of the new Coastal Law and not having renewed it on time.

The legal battle to prevent the people of Silence and the region from being left without a swimming pool was initiated by the government group three years ago, trips to Madrid included, to try to justify the importance of the facilities. However, little progress has been made so far and there are many contradictions between the reports of the aforementioned General Directorate in Madrid and those of Tenerife, which issued a favorable opinion so that the Consistory had a new concession for the next 30 years.

“The last process was through the inter-administrative route and they have not answered, despite the fact that they should have done so on May 4. As of today we have no answer and that is why we understand that it is an administrative silence, ”says the mayor.

It was presented as a result of the last denial of Coasts, communicated through a letter that arrived at the Consistory on February 3. Previously, the response he gave to the City Council’s allegations was that they had not been submitted in a timely manner.

In recent weeks, the councilor has held meetings with the Minister of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Antonio Valbuena, and the next one will do so with the lawyers, both municipal and external, to see what decision the Consistory will take in the face of the losses that it entails. have the pool closed.

“It is true that this type of facility is not profitable for any city council, but tourism, socially and economically speaking, it means a lot,” Fuentes justifies.

In the first place, because the restaurant that is located in the dome cannot be activated and that influences the commerce of the municipality and employment, because it would generate jobs. At the same time, swimming courses continue to be suspended, an activity that not only benefited the population of Los Silos but also that of the entire region.

In addition, it is detrimental to the facilities since when the pool is empty, the pumps are deteriorating and cracks are produced due to the excess heat being outdoors and near the sea. Not to mention the impact it can cause on an urban level and on the coastal landscape.

As if that were not enough, the new boilers and solar panels that were installed at the beginning of the mandate -an investment of 365,000 euros, financed with public money and authorized by Costas- are also deteriorating due to lack of use.

“It’s a problem that has dragged on over time and I think the Government of the Canary Islands has a lot to say,” insists the councilor. “How much more time does Costas need to solve the Los Silos problem when the Lago Martiánez file was much more immediate?” She asks herself.

“I understand that everything went to the same place and that makes me think, as I have said several times, that it is more a political issue than a legal one,” he says.
Macarena Fuentes assures that from the City Council “everything that had to be done has been done and they have bullied us during all this time. The project has three rejections, ”she recalls. And the town of Los Silos, three summers without a pool.

Despite the fact that “it is rumored” that Costas’ powers will pass to the Government of the Canary Islands in July, he makes it clear that if this matter does not have a good outcome for Los Silos, the courts will go to court. He has said it on more than one occasion and repeats it if necessary: ”We will go to court.”
