The businessmen that make up the Central Zone of the capital of Tenerife have made a very positive assessment of the summer carnival, which has just ended after having to be postponed due to the pandemic. Thus, as indicated in statements to COPE Tenerifeare “extremely happy” with how everything has gone, especially this past weekend, when, since last Thursday, four days of street celebrations were held with the Burial of the Sardine, the announcing parade, the Rhythm contest and Harmony and the two days of Carnival Day.

“It’s another type of boost, because the summer months are usually down but now we’re very happy, especially in the leisure sector. It has not been a normal Carnival, but it has gone very well,” said the manager of the Santa Cruz Central Zone, Ruth Dorta.

Even so, despite the good results, the businessmen of said association are not in favor of moving these festivities to summer or organizing two a year, since the Chicharreros Carnivals have their essence between February and March, according to the established Catholic liturgical cycle. the beginning of Lent, and in line with what has already been stated by the City Council. “You cannot maintain that rhythm twice a year, but you can organize some kind of summer party with costumes and betting on Canarian groups, as we have seen what has been done with the orchestras,” Ruth Dorta pointed out in said statements to COPE Tenerife.

This summer Carnival had to be moved to June as the only option to save the festivities this year, after the City Council confirmed, at the beginning of the year, the impossibility of being able to celebrate it on its usual dates, due to the incidence of the pandemic due to the sixth wave and the restrictions still in force. The official acts started last day 3 with the inauguration of the Carnival, and concluded last Sunday with the Rhythm and Harmony contest and the last day of partying in the street, saying goodbye to Don Carnal until next 2023.

In fact, next year the Carnival is already scheduled to start on January 20 with the presentation of the candidates, in one of the earliest starts of these festivities, prolonging the acts and the celebration in the street until February 26. .
