Clavijo urges Albares to appear after the Brussels alert of new migratory waves

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 25. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The senator for the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has demanded the appearance of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, after the leaked report of the European Commission in which he warns of new migratory waves derived from a ” catastrophic famine” caused by Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. The report places the origin of the exodus in the countries of North Africa and Spain and Italy as the main gateways.

The nationalist senator has shown his concern about the impact that new migratory waves could have on the Islands when “there is no response capacity on the Islands nor is there a commitment from the State and the rest of the Autonomous Communities to face a crisis from co-responsibility and solidarity constant migration since the end of 2019”.

Clavijo wanted to recall that the closure of other routes, such as those of the Mediterranean, “has caused the Islands to carry practically all the weight of the irregular migration from Africa that arrives in Spain, consolidating the Canarian route as one of the main gateway to Europe and one of the deadliest routes in the world”.

The senator will require the Foreign Minister to anticipate in coordination with Brussels and the new framework of relations with Morocco, so that situations such as those of the Arguineguín dock and those of Arrecife are not repeated and prevent this new wave of migration reposition the Canary Islands and their waters “as the macro-prison and the largest migrant cemetery in Europe”.
