SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 24. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has registered two new confirmed cases due to a possible diagnosis of monkeypox since yesterday. This means that there are a total of 40 confirmed cases since the start of the health alert declaration, of which 28 were detected in Gran Canaria and 12 in Tenerife.
All the cases are having mild symptoms and remain in home isolation receiving follow-up by Primary Care, except for one of the confirmed cases who is in hospital admission.
Thus, the confirmed and notified cases in the Canary Islands since the beginning of the alert and until today are as follows: 40 confirmed cases, 28 in Gran Canaria and 12 in Tenerife; five probable cases, pending confirmation, three reported in Gran Canaria, one in Tenerife and one in Fuerteventura, and two suspected cases, pending confirmation, all in Gran Canaria.
The protocol of the Ministry of Health classifies cases between probable and suspected depending on whether the patient meets clinical criteria and epidemiological criteria (probable cases) or if it only presents clinical criteria and in such case it is considered a suspected case.
