Arona inaugurated the summer season yesterday with the hoisting of the Blue flag in Playa de Las Vistas, one of the two distinctions of this type obtained by the municipality and which were granted by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac). The other corresponded to El Camisón beach. This international emblem certifies the quality of the waters, the safety and the high level of the services offered in these areas of the Aronero coast.
Precisely, in the area of assisted bathing in the sea and next to the rescue post, the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, proceeded yesterday to raise the Blue Flag of Las Vistas. On this occasion he was accompanied by workers from public services, as well as by councilors from the areas of Security, Francisco Marichal, and Tourism, José Alberto Delgado.
Arona thus opens a summer season “with very good occupancy expectations, close to those registered during the year 2019”according to the municipal government.
The councilor from Arona, José Julián Mena, explained that “Las Vistas is an iconic beach for Arona, where dozens of people work hard so that it continues to have conditions of excellence and quality, which are the symbol of our commitment to a municipality sustainable, that cares for its environment, in addition to accessibility, with an assisted bathing service at sea that is a benchmark and must continue to be so».
For his part, the Councilor for Tourism, Alberto Delgado, explained that “with the raising of the Blue Flag we begin a summer season that comes with good prospects. Arona is also the first destination in the Canary Islands and the second in the world with the European Health Destination quality seal, which guarantees the health safety of those who visit us».
It should be remembered that in 2021, in addition, Arnuero, in Cantabria; Santa Eulalia del Río, in Ibiza, and Las Vistas were the only bathing areas in the country that, in addition to the Blue Flag, had the recognition of Inclusive Beach, granted by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac).
Created in 1995, Playa de Las Vistas has an area of 59,650 square metres, 868 meters long – designed for long walks – and a capacity of 9,900 people, making it the largest in the municipality. It is one of the most awarded beaches in Spain. Its environmental quality and services have made it worthy of blue flags year after year and the Aenor certification, for its Environmental Management and Quality Management systems.
Las Vistas Beach has 13 showers, five toilets -one of which is for people with reduced mobility-, as well as three wooden rescue towers, an assistance post, a 500-square-meter pergola for the shade assisted bathing platform and six poles for the different flags. Without forgetting the service of hammocks (1,200 units) and umbrellas (600). It also has a rescue service, a rescue boat and bathroom assistance for people with reduced mobility that operates all year round. It is one of the tourist attractions of Arona.
