SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, informed today Tuesday in Parliament that the Canary Health Service will hire nearly 1,700 reinforcement professionals and of different categories this summer, among which are those of nursing, medicine, assistants or caretakers.
The counselor explained that the objective is to maintain the activity of the Aborda plan, to reduce waiting lists, during the next three months, in which activity traditionally drops due to the holiday period.
Blas Trujillo indicated that like every summer, hospital management organizes the activity of the summer months in such a way that the vacation rest of the workers can be compensated with the possibility of continuing with health care. In this sense, he pointed out that in this way the surgical activity, tests and consultations of the hospitals can be maintained in the summer period.
As he said, the Canary Health Service has been working on two scenarios; on the one hand, the planning of services for staff vacations with the aim of activating the Summer Plan -integrated into the Aborda Plan- that allows care activity to be maintained and, on the other, the updating of hospital contingency plans in case there will be a rebound in income due to covid-19.
“After more than two years of the pandemic, all healthcare centers are prepared to act, in the event of an increase in cases and admissions (as happened in July last year) and they plan to reorganize care in the Emergency services and the hospitalization, critical and surgical units”, explained the counselor.
Trujillo added that during 2022 the number of patients admitted to the ward for covid has remained stable and the need for admissions to critical care units has decreased, which has made it possible to relocate contracted personnel in order to cover other needs and plan the non-covid assistance with more guarantee.
In this sense, he pointed out that the objective is the integral maintenance in the summer period of all the programs for the reduction of the waiting list, the Plan Aborda and the special programs of an exceptional nature outside the ordinary working day.
