The first phase of the children’s murgas contest, the last of the Science Fiction carnival before the street party, began at 8:00 p.m. with the bamboo performance, third prize for the interpretation of the adult murgas contest. Despite the fact that in a normal carnival it would be the youngest who would serve as opening act for the elders, on this occasion, given the schedule chosen by the Autonomous Party Organization, the tables have been turned. The already constant and devastating low influx of public could not with the desire and enthusiasm of the little ones to make Carnival with capital letters.
Distracted (2006)
Distraídos returned to Carnival, after a two-year hiatus, with a presentation in honor of its allegory, which alludes to the graduates’ clothing, including cap and gown. From there to his parade, which he missed: “A group of friends with murguera blood”.
In their theme, by Airam Bazzochi, they alluded to the series “the squid game” to rescue childhood games and criticize with them the new education reform that allows students to pass the course without passing all the subjects: “I prefer that They demand me and if I fail, they correct me”. From there to claim equality and acceptance of children with autism or to ask for a better use of electric scooters that have been installed in Santa Cruz. They went on to call on children who “play” to disappear, the latest fashion of adolescents in social networks: “Better appear right away”. They ended up demanding equality for all children at school
Two years without leaving and Distraídos managed to return without losing an iota of the essence that characterizes them: childish, visually impressive, with good voices, energy and good critical lyrics. Thank you for coming back.
Long Tongues (2003)
At the gates of celebrating its 20th anniversary, the children of Graci Martín returned claiming in their presentation the return of Carnival after COVID, which served as a preamble to their mythical parade: “because I am a different murguero”.
In “my new normality” they began by recounting the reality that the little ones experienced with COVID-19: “No hugs when greeting.” They criticized the capacity for children’s shows such as the parade of kings as opposed to the Tenerife matches, which did not have as many restrictions. They continued alluding to the solidarity of the Canarians with La Palma to end up talking about how their normality has changed and criticizing that they are constantly putting extracurricular activities on them.
Los Lenguas Largas defended their performance with the illusion of returning to the stage. His lyrics, although somewhat dense, criticized the real problems that children have had during the pandemic. Energetic and happy for their performance, they said their goodbyes.
Strollers (1993)
They began their performance by thanking their fans for being there on their return to Carnival. “27 years making you smile” they sang in their parade with Lizett Ramos in the lead, daughter of the founder of the murga.
In their theme they took advantage of their fantasy of cats to found their own party and ask for the public vote. They criticized Councilman Guillermo Díaz for his statements about the cat colonies and continued talking about all the parties that had been combined with the summer carnival. They ended with soloists: “Counting down the days to be able to return to a new carnival.”
Although with a brief passage through the contest, Carricitos was original and touched on a topic that had not yet been touched on in the Science Fiction Carnival. Supported by the fans, they finished with enthusiasm a performance that was descending but that was fun and wasted camaraderie.
Raviscuditos (2009)
The 30 murgueros from Tacoronte returned to the stage recalling their last year in competition with their entry to end it with the batucada from Río Orinoco, which they took the opportunity to dance in front of the stage before their parade.
In their theme “level zero” they began by recalling the levels of the pandemic to narrate with the eyes of children what the restrictions meant: “level 1 is normal, we can all be together”. They continued to criticize the adults who inculcate competition in the children’s murgas to pass, to the rhythm of mythical carnival songs, to remind the children’s groups that this year have not been able to go out, to those who invite them to return to share the stage.
With an animated musical selection and lyrics written with the eyes of a child experiencing the pandemic and the reality that it brought with it, they signed a return to the contest that cost them in the previous months, but that they achieved and enjoyed. Thank you for the effort to make carnival.
Mamelons (1979)
And Mamelones arrived with their good musicality and their usual spectacle in their presentation to the rhythm of The endless story, which served to make their beautiful costume known to the public. His new director, Aray Suárez, who replaces Antonio García, presented his parade.
In their theme, by Idafe González, they began by stating that they need to reinvent themselves. The mask is used for: “if a fart escapes my essay, my friends won’t notice it”. They continue asking them to reinvent their contest to get a larger audience and presenting their new director. They criticized the garbage that adults throw away in natural spaces while projecting images of members of the murga collecting garbage: “Let’s see if unaware adults learn that I want to enjoy a healthy world.” They took advantage of TikTok, the social network of the present, to have fun with their dances. They ended up claiming equality between children, criticizing parents who educate their children in racism and reflecting on the war in Ukraine: “that no child between bombs and weapons ever live”.
Childish, critical and funny in equal parts. The work of Xerach Casanova in the musical montage and Idafe González in the lyrics managed to conquer hearts. His new and endearing director made merits and managed to live up to his predecessor.
The Cabito (1980)
The incorporation of Cristian Mapesi -Zeta Zetas- in the musical direction was noted from his beautiful entrance, a song to the Carnival of the smallest murgueros that gave way to his parade: “Come, feel the magic of carnival.”
In their theme “in search of the perfect activity” they ironized about the large number of extracurricular activities that exist and looked for the one that most identified them to claim “equality and friendship” between children. They continued to make humor with different sounds that have become popular among teenagers on the TikTok social network. They ended up claiming the importance of children’s murgas, highlighting all the values they bring to children: “Without a doubt, murga is my passion”
With a notable improvement in music and content compared to their last carnival date and an original costume, Angelita’s children signed a fun and childish performance that closed touching fiber paying homage to the role of children’s murgas in the education of the little ones.
