The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, has summoned the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (Fecam) to a working group to promote the regulation of dog access to the island’s beaches.
Parrilla assures that it is necessary to establish bathing and leisure spaces for pets on the beaches to meet the current growing demand. “As most municipalities lack an ordinance for beaches and bathing areas, from the Cabildo we want to provide the municipalities that require it with the necessary tools and resources so that they can create and unify them,” says Parrilla. The Island Corporation will study the possibility of defraying the cost of equipping and signaling these spaces to the municipalities that request it.
Javier Parrilla emphasizes that “pets are not objects, but part of the family unit”; For this reason, “it is necessary, always with respect, that we adapt our beaches for bathers who want to go and enjoy with their dog.”
