The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, chaired several meetings last Thursday with the educational community of the municipality made up of the directors and AMPAS of the CEIPs, FITAPA, as well as the Municipal School Council, with the aim of coordinating actions to adapt the beginning of the school year to the needs of the centers. The meetings served to inform about extracurricular activities as well as the early care program. Accompanying the mayor was the Councilor for Education and Youth, Claudia Reverón, who presented the report of the Service for the detection, prevention and attention of school absenteeism for the 2020/2021 academic year; the educational and sports extracurricular activities programmed for this new academic year; the different campaigns aimed at Infants and Primary Schools, such as a workshop on the prevention of risky behaviors and another on road safety; and finally, the early reception program.
Regarding this last matter, the mayor wanted to clarify that “when we joined in July 2020, we found a contract awarded by the previous government group with 25 monitors, and that clearly they were insufficient to meet the demands of the centers. We suspended the contract and we were able to adequately cover the service with 47 monitors last year ”.
“The winning company appealed the suspension and the municipal legal services have recommended that this contract be resumed, so we have no choice but to agree. In any case, we are working on another complementary route and that in the coming weeks we will be able to reach the 47 monitors and, in this way, guarantee the adequate provision of early care, so important for family conciliation, ”said the mayor.
On the other hand, the person in charge of Education of the municipality, Claudia Reverón, wanted to thank the effort made by teachers, parents and students last year, mainly due to the adaptation of educational centers to health protocols “and that in this course that it is about to begin we can achieve normalize the school life of the students and achieve the objectives set through the different programs of activities that we want to implement ”.
Regarding educational and sports extracurricular activities, they will be maintained as in the previous year. “I know that the company that will provide the service has already contacted the different CEIPs to begin coordinating schedules, monitors and registrations,” said the councilor.
At the request of the management teams of the municipality’s CEIPs, and facing the first quarter of this new course, two workshops will be launched for Infant and Primary. These projects seek recreational-educational and participatory activities, where students will have a special role following the established health protocols, and respecting bubble classrooms.
The first one called Workshop on the Prevention of Risk Behaviors at an Early Age, is aimed at infant students and will aim to prevent behaviors that pose a risk to minors and their environment; and the second project will be destined to the reinforcement of the linguistic capacity and the oral communication of the students. This activity aims to enrich the ability of communication and oral expression.
Another of the actions that will be launched will be a road safety campaign taught by the Local Police, aimed at 5th and 6th grade schoolchildren, with the aim of training students in the correct circulation on public roads, as well as pedestrians. such as when using bicycles and scooters. In addition, informative actions will be carried out to minors, about the danger of misuse of social networks and school bullying.
