THE GRANADILLERA BEACH OF EL MÉDANO WAS CLOSED TO THE BATHROOM YESTERDAY, FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A MONTH, DUE TO THE DETECTION OF FECAL BACTERIA, AS WAS ALSO IN COATS.

Tenerife’s beaches have no truce. After the closure and subsequent opening of Roque de Las Bodegas y Almáciga, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and others in the south of the island due to the presence of hydrocarbon remains in the water and in the sand, yesterday it was the turn of Leocadio Machado, El Médano and Los Abrigos, in Granadilla, where the City Council prohibited bathing because it was detected that the E.coli parameter is higher than that allowed.

The detection of this contamination occurs after the submission of the results of the routine analyzes carried out by the company awarded the aforementioned water quality control service in the bathing areas.

Thus, the Consistory has decided to proceed with the closure at these points of the coast as a precaution and in order to guarantee adequate security levels for the population, pending the results of the pertinent analyzes in the coming days.

It is the second time in less than a month that El Médano has detected a contamination index higher than the allowed one, which is 200ufc / 100 ml of E.coli. Specifically, it was on August 12 when bathing was prohibited in the central part of the aforementioned bathing area for this reason.

In the case of Güímar, the Cabezo A beach, known as Playa de la L, also closed again yesterday due to the presence, again, of a significant concentration of hydrocarbons. After evaluating the situation and taking into account the state of the water, the City Council has been forced to proceed again with the aforementioned partial closure of the Puertito de Güímar coastline, keeping the rest of the beaches and other bathing areas open for now maritime.

The closure will be maintained as long as the situation does not improve and until the water is in optimal conditions for bathing.

Candelaria and Arafo, whose coastline was also affected days ago by the presence of piche, both in the water and in the sand, reopened all their beaches and bathing areas yesterday due to the null presence of hydrocarbon remains.

Thus, in Candelaria the beaches of Las Caletillas, sector 1 of the beach of Punta Larga (the closest to Candelaria), La Hornilla and Playa de Olegario are open and ready for use. Throughout yesterday afternoon and attending to the tides, it was planned that the cleaning teams would continue in sector 2 of Punta Larga Beach (closer to Caletillas), Playa de la Viuda and Playa de los Guanches so that they are also ready to be enjoyed as soon as possible by users.

In Arafo, the beach of Lima was opened, but, nevertheless, the Consistory will continue to inspect the coast in the coming days for a continuous evaluation of the situation.

It was on Tuesday when the hydrocarbon stain detected in the metropolitan area began to advance and reached Candelaria, affecting the beaches of Las Caletillas and Punta Larga, which were immediately closed to the bathroom that same day and the red flag was raised. to warn bathers of danger.

It also affected the Güímar coastline, which joined the recommendations and prohibition of the neighboring municipality and a day later, Arafo.
