The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the president of the Provincial Federation of Construction Entities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Fepeco), Óscar Izquierdo, held a meeting yesterday in which they addressed different issues related to the municipality and, in particular, the possibilities that would open up for the city with the project of the TF-5 variantespecially for the reunification of the urban area, currently crossed by the motorway, and for the decongestion of traffic in the access to the metropolitan area.

As reported by Fepeco in a note, the mayor agreed with the president of the construction businessmen that the variant “will allow the long-standing aspiration of all the lagoons to come true, that the city is no longer divided by the route of the TF -5 and the urban grid of La Laguna may have continuity from Geneto to the Padre Anchieta roundabout”, explained Luis Yeray Gutiérrez. In addition, he considers that this action “will significantly revalue this entire area of La Laguna and will allow us to gain a large space for the use and enjoyment of citizens.”

Likewise, the mayor insisted that the work on the bypass “will help alleviate the enormous load of vehicles currently supported by the Northern Highway as it passes through La Laguna and which generates major traffic problems at the entrance to the city.”

For Óscar Izquierdo, “the variant is not only a necessary work, but an urgent one, and La Laguna is going to be the benchmark for what has to be done in terms of road infrastructure on the Island.” “After almost 40 years, this work will be an oxygen balloon for all citizens who have to come from the North to the metropolitan area and endure huge queues, in addition to serving as closure of the insular ring in the metropolitan area,” he added.

Both the mayor and the president of Fepeco also agreed to point out that it is necessary to promote the processing of the environmental impact report, to speed up the process. “We must provide all the human and material resources so that this project does not take forever and that the allegations are also resolved as quickly as possible, because it is a very urgent work,” said Izquierdo.
