The CEIP Las Delicias swimming pool was closed in 2006 by Public Health. FRAN PALLERO

The images in which the current state of the Las Delicias pool, on Ofra, after 15 years of neglect, have provoked numerous reactions both social and political. Dozens of citizens have shared their nostalgia towards those facilities where many learned to swim, while on the political plane, questions are being asked to delve into the pitfalls that currently prevent progress in the recovery of the pool.

POLITICAL QUESTIONS

The Government team of the Santa Cruz City Council will have to respond in the September Control Commission, which will be held on Thursday of next week, to several questions about the CEIP Las Delicias pool. There will be two questions: one raised by Elena Mateo (Socialist Party) and another by Dolores Marta Espinosa (United We Can).

  • “Does 3,300 euros a month seem a lot to you to have an open pool available for sports at the Las Delicias school for the citizens and athletes of Santa Cruz?” Mateo will ask the Councilor for Sports, Alicia Cebrián.
  • “Has the City Council considered other alternatives for the recovery and maintenance of the CEIP Las Delicias pool?” Espinosa will question the Government team.

It should be remembered that the position of the current Government, supported by a feasibility report carried out in 2018, is bet on the transfer of CEIP Las Delicias students to the swimming pool of the Las Retamas Sports Complex, at a cost of 20,000 euros. On the contrary, the report considers it “unfeasible” to allocate 40,000 euros to the maintenance of the Las Delicias pool facilities.

NOSTALGIA ON THE NETWORKS

“This article has unlocked more memories for me than I am capable of expressing,” a user posted on Twitter after reading the report on the Las Delicias pool. Another tweeter noted: “I did not jump over that wall as a young man to sneak into the water.”

However, there are also those who are outraged by the situation and wanted to denounce it with messages such as: “the deplorable state it is in is a shame.” And people who even call for action: “What if we started a collection of signatures to rehabilitate it?
