The Popular Party of Santa Cruz de Tenerife announces this Tuesday that it will promote the necessary mechanisms to appeal the decision of the Technical Commission of Historical Memorywhich agreed this Monday to approve the catalog of Francoist symbols of the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with the vote against the representative of the popularGuillermo Díaz Guerra, and the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez (CC-PNC).
Díaz Guerra explains in a note that “the decision to vote against this document is based on the fact that its elaboration process has been characterized by going against the regulations, which establish that the catalog must be elaborated on a regional basis, after elaborating the corresponding regulation. ”, and in this regard he highlights that “the Government of the Canary Islands does not have this regulation, and therefore, it is the first that is not complying with the Law of Historical Memory”.
The popular councilor reveals his “doubts” about “the objectivity” of the catalog, which according to his criteria is full of “partial” evaluations that must be reviewed.
In addition, he insisted on the need to “have, not only with experts in various fields – cultural, historical or artistic – but also with the opinion of the citizens of Santa Cruz to develop a document of these characteristics.”
The representative of the Popular Party concluded by saying that “it is necessary to have a regulation as established by law, so that the resulting catalog is an objective and consensual document.”
