SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 13. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has launched a new summer safety campaign in recreational boating, promoted by the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine and Maritime Rescue, in collaboration with the Civil Guard and Anen , under the motto ‘The sea is immense. The responsibility it demands, too’.

This campaign is aimed at preventing accidents and episodes of maritime pollution that affect recreational boating, a sector that during 2021 concentrated 53% of the emergencies attended between June and September by Maritime Rescue in coastal areas.

In the Canary Islands, 76 pleasure boats received attention from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centers (CCS) in Las Palmas and Tenerife. In addition, they assisted 176 people in recreational boats and another 42 who carried out different recreational activities at sea.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of Tenerife dealt with more recreational boat emergencies: a total of 43, while in Las Palmas they rose to 33.

ON SOCIAL NETWORKS

The summer safety campaign in recreational boating, which has its own website, will focus, above all, on preventive messages aimed at users of jet skis and smaller boats that do not need certification for their government, and will have as main support the Twitter accounts of Mitma (@mitmagob) and Salvamento Marítimo (@salvamentogob) and the rest of the social networks of both entities, through the use of the hashtags #SeguridadNáutica, #Riesgos0 and #CampañaPonteElChaleco.

A promotional video of the campaign has also been produced with advice to prevent accidents at sea, which will be disseminated on social networks and other media, such as the Mitma and Salvamento Marítimo websites, along with the rest of the planned materials.

A guide of practical tips, downloadable at the following link: http://www.salvamentomaritimo.es/sala-de-comunicacion/follet… rescue-maritime, also published in paper format, and a brochure aimed at children complement the materials provided. In addition, the free Safe TRX app is made available to sailors, which can be downloaded for IOS and Android at: http://www.salvamentomaritimo.es/safe-trx Prevention is better than intervention.

The general director of the Merchant Navy and president of Maritime Rescue, Benito Núñez, has highlighted the importance of this type of prevention campaign, “because as public administrations we have the obligation to provide citizens with all the information available, at the same time that we establish the necessary measures so that their stays at sea are safe and sustainable and they enjoy with the least risk”.
