SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 12. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Socialist General Secretary and President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, took to Andalusia this Sunday the example of the Islands in the defense and management of Public Education, stressing that the Socialists “in no case are we going to negotiate so that essential services break, as could happen with PP and Vox governments”, and highlighted that next year the Archipelago will have public and free education for the first time from 0 to 3 years.

“For the first time in history, the Canary Islands exceed 2,000 million euros in budgets for Education. And with European funds we have hired more than 3,000 Education professionals and 7,000 Health professionals, and we have lowered the ratios of public schools to improve attention in the classrooms to students. Other communities, on the other hand, what they have done is fire their teachers,” he said.

“The Socialists are not going to negotiate so that Education breaks down, on the contrary”, Torres continued affirming during his speech at the Palacio de Congresos de Córdoba, in an act of support for the Andalusian PSOE candidate, Juan Espadas, in the Other socialist regional presidents have also participated.

“In the Canary Islands we support public universities and in the Andalusia of the PP we support private ones. I, who am the son of a waiter and a housewife and who was able to study because I got scholarships during Felipe González’s time, I have to claim that our children can also study in public education and we all have equal opportunities”, he affirmed.

The leader of the Canarian Socialists has been especially proud that the Islands can have public education from 0 to 3 years next year. “Unbelievably, in the years of government of others, they did not bet on it, thus breaking the possibility of facilitating family and work reconciliation for Canarian mothers and grandmothers, and deepening the gap between men and women,” he lamented.

The forecast is that the Government of the Canary Islands will enable 3,879 places from 0 to 3 years in the next three school years, so that for the 2024/25 academic year the Archipelago will have 9,369 public places.

Torres began his speech by thanking all Andalusians for “the support, affection and solidarity” received on the occasion of the volcanic crisis in La Palma. He has had the same words of thanks for the Government of Spain, and has also referred to those who today say that Madrid mistreats the Canary Islands but that, when they had government responsibility, they allowed Mariano Rajoy’s Popular Party “to withdraw all the funds and did not comply with the signed agreements, for which he was even sentenced”.

He has finished his presentation by saying that what Andalusia is playing for next Sunday the 19th at the polls is “to return to the good governments that defend the welfare state.” And he added: “That day I will have two things to celebrate: the promotion of CD Tenerife to the First Division and Juan Espadas being the president of Andalusia.”
