The Plenary Hall of the council of Tenerife has hosted this Friday a meeting of the Animal Welfare Council, in which it was agreed to urge the national and regional governments to conclude the legislative procedure that regulates animal welfareas well as the creation of homogeneous ordinances for all municipalities adapted to these regional and state regulations.
“Without regulations, the limits of competence generate more doubts than positive actions,” said the island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla. “That is why we have made this decision to request necessary regulatory advances,” he added.
The counselor recalled that the investment in Animal Welfare planned by the Cabildo for 2022 exceeds one million euros (1,071,197.20), to which must be added an additional 100,000 euros from the remaining funds
The representatives of all the political parties with representation in the Cabildo, the ADEPAC, FECAPAC and ANIMALIA associations, as well as the Official College of Veterinarians of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the technical managers of the areas of Livestock and Fisheries and Natural Environment of the Cabildo de Tenerife. The representatives recently appointed by FECAM as spokespersons for the Metropolitan Area, North and South of the Island also attended.
A large part of the issues discussed in the council revolved around the problematic with the control and collection of cats and the ways of collaboration between municipalities, which have the competence of the matter, and volunteering. In this sense, the Cabildo undertakes to create working groups, according to the structure proposed by the FECAM, that serve as training and information for the CER system by the local administrations of the Island.
Groups such as ADEPAC expressed the need for municipalities to invest in cat sterilization, for which the island institution is studying the possibility of investing 100,000 euros through the two shelters it has.
