The 75th edition of the San Benito Abad Regional Pilgrimage will premiere, on July 10, a remodeled route, which “is similar because it runs through the historic streets of the municipality, but we reduce the turns and encourage that both the beginning and the end be in the church of San Benito. This was stated by the councilor for Fiestas de The lagoonBadel Albelo, who explained that as a result of the fact that part of San Agustín street is closed, and the Pilgrimage of San Benito cannot go through there, this circumstance has been taken advantage of to make this modification of the route to make it “more coherent”.

Specifically, “the carts, as always, wait on Candelaria avenue, go up and turn towards Marqués de Celada and once they pass by the church of San Benito they are already accompanied by the saint, who goes down through Marqués de Celada and instead of take Adelantado street and go towards San Agustín and make another turn, and then take directly by Marqués de Celada and go down Herradores street, until Trinidad avenue, turn in Tabares de Cala and go up Carrera street, to then reach the street Advance, they go up there and connect again with Marqués de Celada and it ends in San Benito”, he indicated.

With the new layout, the turns are reduced, which will make it “much more attractive because it is done more in a straight line” and, in addition, it will also allow the duration of the San Benito pilgrimage to be slightly shortened, since “by not having so many turns , it is easier for the carts, the boats, the yuntas… and it even increases security”, pointed out the mayor.

Ten euros of donation to reserve a table at the ball of magicians

The pilgrimage of San Benito is, without a doubt, one of the highlights of its festivities, but so is the traditional dance of magicians, which this year is recovering after the pandemic, being held on July 8, and which will also incorporate some novelties .

Thus, the councilor confirmed that “we will use the digital platforms to reserve the table”, for which it will be necessary to pay “a donation of ten euros, through the pilgrim friends of San Benito, which will be delivered to Cáritas for the families most needy, which is the most important thing”. Albelo pointed out that he expects reservations to be available starting next week, for a total of 475 tables, which is “a little more than other years”, since “in 2019 it did not reach 400”.

In addition, he stressed that the dance of magicians recovers the stage of the Plaza de San Benito, where a dance will be held, while that of La Concepción will be enlivened with folklore.

The councilor also appreciated that this year’s festivities contemplate “several circumstances that are taking place for the first time”, such as the presentation of the poster in the street, last Monday, the remodeled route of the pilgrimage and, in addition, the walk that will do on July 2, before the contest of the largest pilgrimage, of all the candidates of the three categories, from the Plaza del Adelantado to the Teatro Leal. He also highlighted all the other acts that make up this year’s program.
