The production plants of Tenerife –Celgán and Güímar– They register movements these days to try to revoke the bankruptcy administrator (Restructuring and Bankruptcy Praxis) that directs the JSP sale process. The initiative stems from the thesis that the rejection of the only offer received to date, issued by the Hyperion investment funddoes nothing but send to limbo the 146 jobs still maintained by an industrial group whose production plants remain inactive.

Hyperion had achieved reduce debt with banks to 12 million euros from the almost 40 that had accumulated in successive forward flight practiced since 2012. However, it does not accept the employment regulation file (ERE) signed in January and for which 278 workers were fired. The agreement reached between the company and the workers contemplated some improvements that the Asturian investment fund is not willing to assume.

This position motivated the bankruptcy administrator to decide the auction of productive units of the group –it will be consummated in July if there is not a twist in the script beforehand– and entrusted an external company with the search for fresh capital. At this point, the appraisal process for JSP’s assets continues without being closed.

With this succession of events, the stopped production plants and the workforce pending an ERTE to be able to enter at least part of their payroll, A current of opinion has spread that regrets that Hyperion’s offer was not accepted. Even if the dismissed were left with the 21 days per year worked and twelve monthly payments established by law instead of the 25 and 16 months agreed in the ERE.

That pact is even held by wet paper, since the effect it produced was that the Salary Guarantee Fund (Fogasa) presented itself a month later as a creditor worth 5 million euros. In other words, the company’s debt increased, when the bankruptcy administrator is there precisely so that this does not happen. His next action was to order the machines to stop when the truth is that the demand for products such as milk exists, according to the workers, and the devaluation of the Canarian industry accelerates every day that the shelves do not receive their products.

In the plants of Celgán and Güímar there is also a growing feeling that if it comes to auction many more jobs will be destroyed. Each investor who attends the bid will be free to launch the offer they deem appropriate and, if they do not find competition, if this includes a strong job destruction, they will keep the asset. The candidates could even go simply with the intention of selling the properties.

What is certain is that all employees not assigned to productive units, case, for example, of the Miller Bajo warehouse, They will stay on the street.
