The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands made available to the public the information referring to the provisional approval of the Master Plan for the Use and Management of the Teide National Park. Interested persons and entities may consult the document, as well as make observations and suggestions.

The councilor responsible for the Area, José Antonio Valbuena, highlighted that the Plan will contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and the natural landscape of the Teide National Park, in addition to promoting research and cooperation between the different administrations.

People who wish can access the document at the facilities of the Vice-Ministry for the Fight against Climate Change and Ecological Transition of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, at the Teide National Park Offices or through the Ministry website. The term ends on July 5.

For his part, the Deputy Minister for Ecological Transition and the Fight against Climate Change, Miguel Ángel Pérez, pointed out that observations and suggestions may be made in person at the registry offices of the Government of the Canary Islands, in the registries regulated by article 16.4 of the LPACAP or in the electronic office.

During the established term, a hearing procedure will be granted to environmental associations, scientific entities, associations related to uses and exploitation and those related to public use. Likewise, a query will be made to the affected public administrations. The consultation hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

visits

Article 5.3.1 of the PRUG draft establishes that “access and mobility management will be carried out in the national park, which will result in a new sustainable mobility system that will condition the way of carrying out the visit.”

In this sense, the director of the Teide National Park, Manuel Durban, has indicated in cope that “what is intended is to promote the visit by collective transport with discretionary buses or shuttles that would leave from the service areas with underground parking that will be located in Chío, Vilaflor and El Portillo. In this way, parking would be very restricted between 9:00 and 17:00. With this measure, which is unavoidable, we would guarantee that the load capacity would not be exceeded and we would ensure that there was no damage to natural resources”.

The draft also establishes that “road circulation will be free for any vehicle in the national park, so the right of transit will be guaranteed for those who wish to use any of the TF-21, TF-24 or TF-38 highways to access from one place to another on the island.

Likewise, “the circulation of any type of vehicle on the roads of the national park will be subject to the determinations of the Island Council regarding roads and the specific traffic and road safety regulations”, while “the access of vehicles through the tracks is prohibited, with the exception of the one that responds to emergency reasons, for surveillance and management tasks, as well as to carry out guided routes promoted by the managing administration”.

Another of the most outstanding points of the new regulation is the relating to cycling, since “it can only be done on paved roads, being incompatible on the tracks and in the network of trails of the national park”. On the other hand, “transit throughout the national park with scooters, skateboards and other similar means is prohibited.”

As for parking, “it will be carried out in places enabled for this purpose. The managing administration may adopt all those restrictive measures in the parking lots that result in making the protection of the values of the national park more effective.

However, “during the hours of operation of the sustainable mobility system, the parking of any vehicle other than public transport (buses) will be prohibited, with the exception of workers in the national park, contracted companies and public administrations, those who carry out authorized activities, cable car and parador staff.
