There are few places in the Canary Islands that did not live this weekend, from Friday until yesterday, an intense day of celebrations, both private and public, as if it were an irrepressible desire to forget about the pandemic, not just to celebrate Canary Islands Day , but to enjoy, by the way, the long bridge.

Thus, Candelaria lived a historic day on Sunday with the presence of 5,000 people who celebrated the Day of the Canary Islands around the 200 tables displayed in the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias and only that because in reality, due to security measures, they did not fit more, since there was almost a demand to double that amount, according to details from the City Council.

There would have been a need for many more tables to accommodate all those who wanted to bring their baskets such as Canarian gastronomy and wines, as well as many more tickets (five euros per person) to enter an area marked off for the occasion, in which the good weather accompanied, without the presence, on this occasion, of the cold sea breeze or the risk of rain, which was not fulfilled.

And we are only talking about the eighth edition of the Baile de Magos in the Plaza de la Patrona, which does not have the tradition of the Baile de Santa Ana (July), which, on this occasion, was characterized by a good atmosphere, without incidents that stand out, beyond the fact that some of the young people who wanted to return home late at night could not find a taxi, due to a shortage of them, or because they were not wearing a mask.

The dance began at 9:00 p.m. when the first magicians began to arrive at the square to enjoy a dance that lasted until 5:00 a.m. and was enlivened by the orchestras Sabrosa and Revelation and Álvaro Gamboa & Latin Show.

The Dance of the Magi served as the finishing touch to the events organized by the City Council of Candelaria around the Day of the Canary Islands and which were framed under the motto Candelaria celebrates the Canary Islands.

Workshops on pottery, traditional gastronomy, the Gomeran whistle and indigenous sports were held in the educational centers. In addition, the Rambla los Menceyes was adorned with the exhibition Essential Artists of the Canary Islands, which takes a tour through the most relevant authors and works of plastic arts in the recent history of the Canary Islands. In addition, the Candelaria Craft Guide was presented and different concerts were held at the Cine Viejo with Canarian content
