The monitoring of the gases existing in the areas of Puerto Naos and La Bombilla show that the level of gases concentrated in both nuclei continues to be high and that, therefore, it does not allow the return of residents and merchants to the area.
This gas monitoring work is being carried out by the Emergency Services of the Cabildo de La Palma, together with professionals from the National Geographic Institute (IGN) and the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan).
The Insular Corporation has reported that it continues to work hand in hand with the scientific teams to establish a new zoning of these nuclei and define, once the situation improves, places that can be accessed gradually, always guaranteeing the safety of people. .
From Peinpal it is explained that, despite the fact that the gas levels remain at still high levels for the return to these nuclei, it is not possible to predict how long they will remain in this situation and, therefore, it is unknown if the opening of the zones will or will not be possible in a shorter or medium period of time.
Currently, the La Bombilla area has an instrumental network for monitoring carbon dioxide outdoors, made up of five stations from the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands (DGSE), the IGN and Involcan.
On the other hand, Puerto Naos has a network made up of seven stations to carry out this work, two of them from the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands (DGSE) and five from INVOLCAN and the University of Azores.
