The Provincial Federation of Construction Entities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Fepeco) expresses its “absolute support” for the “historic” claim of the motor world of the Island to have a Circuit in Atogo (Granadilla de Abona). It is the conclusion of the meeting held between the entity and the Platform We Want a Speed Circuit in Tenerife (QCVT). Both groups ask all political parties represented in the Cabildo “an exercise of responsibility to put aside egos, partisan interests and personal confrontations” with the aim of “putting the Island above everything.” They understand that this must be the priority to vote in favor of the amendment that allocates an investment of 5.7 million euros to the first works of the installation to be undertaken before the end of this year in the insular plenary session tomorrow.
Fepeco and the group of motor enthusiasts make a special appeal to the opposition, Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party –they voted against the proposal in the session on the 4th– so that they “responsibly support the government group”.
The work meeting was carried out on one side by the president of Fepeco, Oscar Izquierdo, and by Luis Alonso, associate businessman and motor enthusiast. The representatives of the Platform were Lourdes Chandas and Rubén Valero.
Izquierdo draws the picture: «We have held regular meetings over the last decades, but to this day nothing has been done except for the embarrassing old photograph of a first stone». For the president of the construction employers’ association, this image “is the failure of political management in a strategic project for Tenerife.” He is blunt: «The Motor Circuit has been the great deception of Tenerife politicians to the people».
Izquierdo justifies this bluntness: “We have been asking for it for more than 30 years, they have offered it repeatedly, with unfulfilled promises one after another.” “The Circuit is not a whim” he details. On the other hand, he stresses that “motor lovers, thousands of fans who want to have decent and, above all, safe facilities, have been disrespected, teased.”
For Izquierdo, “the Circuit is an added value to the Island.” As a pole of attraction for millionaire investments and for the entry of new technologies. He supposes, he values, “putting Tenerife within a global circuit, which will give it as much name as if CD Tenerife goes up to the First Division.”
It concludes with a warning: “If the initiative is not approved in plenary session, we will accompany the fans when they go out into the street.” The other party ratifies it.
Luis Alonso insists that “the total 70 million must be guaranteed for the complete construction, between now and 2025.” For that he estimates that “there must be a formal, serious and joint commitment.”
Rubén Valero highlights that “we don’t have more federated or teams, because there is nowhere to train.” He guarantees that the sector is united and recalls the popular initiative that they presented in 2019 at the Cabildo with the support of 15,600 signatures. He anticipates that on Friday they will be in plenary.
Lourdes Chandas shows her “disappointment” with all public officials because “they have deceived us.” But in a special way “it seems very strong to us that CC today says no, for whatever reason.” She appeals to sentiment: «Some of those who started are already older or are tired, but the new generations take over and we are going to fight; I hope to enjoy the Motor Circuit even if it is in taca-taca ».
